Settlement History of Brazil on Dipity.
Upon gaining its independence, Brazil became a more inclusive country. It began ridding itself of injustices. For example, the unjust practice of slavery was abolished and Brazil broke its ties from the monarchy that once ruled it. The country became a partner with other nations by joining the United Nations and gave power to its people by becoming a democracy. When Brazil elected their first woman president, it broke away from the status quo set in previous years. It gave women a higher status and created a sense of equality in the country. Overall, Brazil slowly (but surely) broke away from what they once were; ruled under others who made decisions without the consent of the people.
